You know ‘Flirty Dancing’ from that viral video. The U.S. version comes with a twist

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean say they are more than happy to watch contestants and their professional partners fall for each other off the ice as they reject claims the show is ‘cursed’. Dancing On Ice has practically been branded a successful dating show by star judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean after years of headlines about backstage romances and breakups on the reality winter sport show. The Olympic duo have attempted to play down the idea that the hit ITV show is cursed, similar in the way to Strictly Come Dancing, and instead think the rink is the perfect place for romance to ignite.

For years viewers have been gripped by the romantic action behind the scenes almost as much as they are by the routines performed on the ice. Each episode sees a pair of hopeful singletons separately learning the steps to the same dance over the course of four days.

They then meet for the first time in some beautiful public spot to perform the dance they’ve just learned — and are not allowed to speak a word to each other throughout. Holding the singles‘ hands throughout this whole crazy process is presenter Ashley Banjo, a man who became a household name in the UK after his dance group, Diversity, won Britain’s Got Talent.

As well as choreographing a dance for a couple of strangers to perform together, Banjo is patient and kind as he guides his nervous singletons towards love hopefully. Flirty Dancing ‘s first episode sees him trying to find that special dance partner for two of England’s more judgmental somethings, as well as for two men who’ve been single for years but still have hopes of finding Mr Right.
